Sun Valley Idaho

Eric and I always enjoy taking biking trips. We were planning a Moab trip, when we decided to head in a different direction. Instead of going south, we headed north, all the way up to Sun Valley Idaho. I have heard some really great things about Sun Valley and I figured it was time that I checked it out.I have to be honest, it is fantastic. Better then I had thought. A fantastic weekend of riding. The first day we rode Adams Gulch, and the second day we rode up and down Mt Baldy (this is an epic ride).

So after doing almost no planning we woke up bright and early saturday morning and pedaled to the local bike shop. Once there we bought a map, a few energy bars and was told that we should head out to Adam's Gulch. So we did.Wow...what a fun ride. The climb to the top was brutal (isnt is always), but the view from the top and the downhill that followed the climb made it worthwhile. What didnt, was somehow getting lost and climbing back up the descent. We missed an unmarked, semi-hidden turn off and ended up climbing all the way back up. It was like the Blair Witch...we kept ending up in the same spots. Oh Well...what are you gonna do. It was a lot of fun, technical and most importantly something new. We rode 31 miles total, including a failed attempt to find a trail outside of town. Although we did get to see the Ernest Hemmingway Memorial....

After having such a great time riding Adam's Gulch on Saturday, we knew that we would have to pull out all the stops to top it. We also knew that we were up for the challenge. So on Sunday, after our complimentary continental breakfast we jumped on the bikes and headed over to Mt Baldy. It was quite the ride. We went up Cold Springs trail and down the Warm Springs Trail. It was a 23 mile loop. The climb up Warm Springs was awesome. It was 8.5 miles up to the top of Mt Baldy. The climb was nice, it was fairly gradual, not too steep and was almost entirely in the shade. A few miles of it winded up through a large section of the forest that had been burned down. It was eerie to say the least. Once we got to the top we kept going and headed down Cold Springs. Wow!! what a downhill...a real barn burner. It was long and it was long and it was long. A lot of it was exposed and consisted of loose shale on the side of a cliff. It was the ride of the season. Had we gone back down Warm Springs, I would have said it was the greatest ride ever!!
