Costa Rica-Monteverde

At the end of September 09 Eric, Harold and I took an epic trip to Costa Rica. We flew into Liberia in the North West and flew out of the capital of San Jose. As always we had no real plan, just a vague idea of what we were gonna do. We ended up spending the first night in the beach town of El Coco. We had a great night drinking beers and listening to Tico Tunes.

We woke up and headed down the coast to the surf town of Tamarindo. The waves are a reasonable size and there is little undertow and no coral. So it makes it an excellent place to learn how to surf. So we did. It was a lot of fun. After a few days of surfing, we decided it was time to head inland.

So we headed up to the Monteverde Cloud Rain Forest. We found a great cabina in Santa Elana. We had a great time in the rain forest. We rode some sick zip lines. They had a cool superman zip line, where they clip you in under the line and you ride from mountain to mountain and it feels like you are flying. At one point I must have been 3000 feet over the valley floor. It was crazy. There was also a huge tarzan swing that swung you out over the top of the rain forest canopy. If ever have the chance I highly recommend the zip lines to everyone. We also took out some ATVs and ripped it up.

After spending a few days in the rainforest, we decided it was time to head to the capital, the big city, San Jose. We had a great time there. We had heard some rumors that San Jose was not safe, we found it to be wonderful. The first day we ate lunch in a huge indoor market. They had everything from t-shirts to fish markets. Really something for everyone. We also enjoyed the nightlife, the bar scene was pretty roudy, but enjoyable.

Monte Verde Cloud Rain Forest

After leaving Tamarindo we headed up to the Monteverde Cloud Rain Forest. We headed up to the Adventura Fun Center and after rented some ATVs. It was just the 3 of us and the trail guide, some cool dude from Florida. He started us off on a relatively easy track to see if we could ride. After building a jump and going off of it, he looked at us grinned, said "you guys have not fear, we are gonna have some fun". And sure enough we did. We went out on a sick ride through the rain forest. There were big climbs, sick descents all over muddy terrain littered with big tree roots. It was out of this world.

Hey There Hamertek Heading Down
The drive up to Santa Elana was amazing. We drove 50 miles on this dirt road that just rose up into the mountains. The views of the Cloud Rain Forest was astonishing. It was so green and lush. We got there right after the rainy season, so as you can imagine things were GREEN!! We also lucked out on our hotel. We got a great cabina right in the heart of Santa Elana.

Now if you are going to be going to Costa Rica and you happen to find yourself in the rain forest (doesnt matter which one), chances are pretty darn good that you will have the opportunitty to ride a zip line. YOU MUST GO!! I can not stress that enough. It is so much fun. The zip lines themselves are pretty amazing, but what makes it unforgetable is the Tarzan Swing. It is huge, and you go over the top of the rain forest canopy. It is quite the experience. They also have a superman zip line, one of the longest lines and they connect you below it. It makes you feel like you are flying (at least movie flying).
